Applying the rotation id D3D

Okay so I have created a correct matrix for rotating my jet. I know its right. lets call this D3DXMATRIX matRot; and I create a new position matrix D3DXMATRIX newPos; Now how do i combine the 2, i tried multiply but the position updates but not the angle? I used MatrixMultiply, is that wrong before I call setTransform on the D3D device? thanks in advance.
