Game models in 3ds max

I am making some 3D models for my program in 3DS MAx. If i want to animate a cockpit on an airplane for example, should i weld the vertices of the cockpit to the airplane or leave it as a seperate element attached to the plane?

Depends on if you're using bones for the plane, or just animating the objects by themselves. Using bones can work both ways.

which do you think is the best way to do it? I want to make the elevators and flaps move when flying
