DirectX audio question
I finally got a wrapper class setup for directx audio. I started to play sounds (loaded wave segments).
I can play one just fine. If I attempt to play another the first is interrupted and the second plays. After digging through the sdk help, I found that by setting the dwflags parameter of PlaySegmentEx to DMUS_SEGF_SECONDARY. I could play the second sound. (On top of the first.)
So for examples sake. I'll call segments that have the dwflag of PlaySegmentEx set to DMUS_SEGF_SECONDARY secondary segments.
Those that don't I'll call primary segments.
I then started to play with AudioPaths and setting effects on them. (i.e. echo, chorus) The sound effects do not seem to affect secondary segments. They work great on primary segments.
My original thought was that narrations/theme songs play on primary segments, and secondary segments play sound effects. (i.e. gun shot, explosion, etc)
My question is, do I have this all wrong?
Edit:
I'll answer my own question! Yes I do have it all wrong. After thinking about it some more I have the answer.
AUDIOPATHS!!!!!!
