Why does my system shut down?

The code of Nehe''s lesson18 can run well on my computer. But when I disabled texture and only tried to draw a white sphere on the screen, my system shut down.I had to reset my computer. After I enabled texture again, it can run well.Why? Thanks in advance.

I think I have the latest driver, but I haven''t run Q3 on it. Perhaps it is a little old.
