The sentence was not punctuated correctly, and it definately was a runon sentence. There should not be a comma before the ''but'' since there is no new subject in the second half of the sentence. The verb ''shows'' must be repeated three times or only included once. As is, he repeated it in the second clause and left it out after the ''and''. Finally, there should be a comma before the ''and''.

I went to a technical school, so all this english is from whatever i learned in high school. Those are foggy memories at best.
