if you have a good PC (>1GHZ, >256Mo), well there is the software:
poseidon for uml,
it''s free for years in the educational version.
It''s done under java, so you must have the jdk, but the soft is full and easy at use !
I advise it for anybody looking for such a soft.
However if you want a little free tool, there is Dia under Linux which evoluates quickly.

If you want a fairly full-featured application, Umbrello is pretty nice. It does UML, as well as pretty good code generation. It''s also GPL, so you can hack it yourself if you want
