When using royalty SFX from sound libraries... And the files are unedited. For legal reasons do you have to have the files stored in a archive? Like an uncompressed zip renamed at the minimum?
"... And what really sickens me? :-) well a company I contacted informed me that they had an audio developer.. they have bio on their website, he graduated in marketing and was the lead programmer, audio really is the side job."

If games aren''t covered in the license then the best thing to do is contact the copyright holders.

But then you run the risk of being told you can''t use the sounds in that way. If this is the case, ask them if disguising the files as you suggest is an appropriate solution. If they still refuse, then you are in a rather difficult position!

Licensers of music samples tend to be more picky about this.
