hi im sorry but i havent bee able to fnd help on this for ages and im stuck with an hd with data i need and cant use. i had a prob with win xp and i needed to do a repair on it but my system asks for my administration password(like a dummy i made one). and i cant remember it and i cant do the repair it just reboots the computer. does anyone know how i can recover the password?? "Hello World!!!"

The easiest method to get your data would be to install another hardrive and install XP on that. Keep the original drive in the PC as well. After XP is installed you can access all your files on the original drive (providing you didn''t encrypt them!)

That''s how I''d do it, although not everyone has extra equipment lying around.

yea thats the problem i dont have the money for that right now... i need to know of another way to get to it....

Well if the data you need is not dependent on OS settings you could install XP over top of the old installation, but don''t format the drive.

If that isn''t good enough then you could find a dos bootable disk, a copy of NTFSDos, and copy off the sam database. Then you could have a go at cracking the password. IMHO, it''s a lot easier to just find a cheap used drive.

Is the filesystem ntfs? If so there are linux boot disks to reset the admin password on win2k, winxp... Search google for them. They should still work on fat32 filesystems, just don''t know if the ready-made disks are geared for that.
