Hi, I have to build a massive and acurate 3D landscape for a new game. I''ve come up with several methods, all in Max, but they all have significant flaws. Does anyone have any tips/resources I can use? Thnx D Bryer

well, the biggest flaw is the time it will take me to build them in Max. I have many assets to place on the landscape such as trees, buildings etc, all of them built in Max, as well as very specific textures to be placed on the landscape itself. Is there a better application for doing this?

Thanks

Landscapes for games usually use custom tools, because they use custom model formats. Indeed, some landscapes are not mesh-based at all, but are just height maps, which gives you massive savings in terms of memory but some loss of flexibility.

How big is ''massive'' in your case? Can you use a height map and just add MAX-generated models on top? And surely the game itself places some demands on the format of the landscape?
