Assuming the sFilename is a valid CString to a filename and pSurface is a valid IDirect3DSurface8, what can cause D3DXSaveSurfaceToFile(sFilename, D3DXIFF_BMP, pSurface, NULL, NULL) to fail?

well..

OBVIOUS ANSWERS:
1) cStrings are definately a tricky area..
2) the surface is somehow invalid

TRICKY ANSWERS:
1a) Did you use the proper means to convert a normal string (a char * filename) to a LPCTSTR object?
1b) Is the filename reasonable, with no strange symbols?
1c) Does the filename have "/" or "\" for folder seaprators.
1c-a) The "\" separator should be "\\" since "\" is an escape code facility.

2a) Where did you get the pSurface from?
