HELP!!! glutBitmapCharacter() function OpenGL

Let me rephrase my previous qusetion and make it more simpler. I am programming with MS Visual C++ 6.0. The questions are: How best can I render bitmaps in my program? How can I render a bitmap that doesn''t change its position even if the camera position and line of site changes? Which matrix modes do I use and when do I push and pop the matrices? Please help me! In pursuit of knowledge.
