z-buffer crash

Recommended Posts

For some reason, if I enable the z-buffer without seting EnableAutoDepthStencil to true, my program will not only crash, but also crash Windows and freeze it. Do you have to have the EnableAutoDepthStencil set to true, or is my computer messed up?

Im guessing that the z-buffer has to use the stencil buffer to operate and that setup has to enabled or it will crash. So... EnableAutoDepthStencil does that for you and it shouldn''t be a problem if you arn''t using the stencil buffer.

If you don''t set EnableAutoDepthStencil to TRUE, then you are responsible for creating and managing the Z/Stencil buffer. So if you are enabling z buffering without creating the Z buffer and setting it as the current render target, well, you are asking for trouble.
