hi i just read a tutorial about pixelshaders and figured that there are only 8 registers for user defined constants will there be more registers available at the next generation of graphic hardware? the reason why i need more is because i want to define the world coordinate of the lights in order to perform per pixel lightning if there are ways around this lets me know please thx

DirectX 8.1 exposes 8 constant registers for ps 1.1 to 1.4. But with DirectX 9 ps 2.0 you have 32 of them, for ps 2.0+ and ps 3.0 you have 224.

So get yourself some DirectX 9 hardware...

Ironically, it would not actually be possible to use more than 8 constant registers in PS 1.0 to 1.3, as each instruction can only refer to one constant register, and the instruction limit is 8.

Yes I do have holidays at the moment. And yes, that does explain the increased posting.
