Is it possible to make a massively multiplayer game using Java applications? I don''t see any trouble in making an Applet (aside from the fact that I have NO CLUE HOW TO NETWORK!!) but does it work the same with applications?

To start off, I have a personal bias against Java...

Anyways, I don''t see how Java is feasible in a MMOG setting. Not only do you have the issues of MASSIVE differences in the execution speed on the client side based on differing VMs, but you have the "security" of Java''s sandbox model to work around.

I have played an attempt at a Java based MMORPG and the performance was absolutely abyssmal. The window was forced to be tiny in order to keep a decent framerate and the latency was just plain painful. I don''t recall what it was called but it was on Popcap''s site.

My sig used to be, "God was my co-pilot but we crashed in the mountains and I had to eat him..."
But folks whinned and I had to change it.

I guess so. Check out Runescape.
Yes, good example. Runscape is laggy and ugly.

Well, I never played it myself, but I heard it''s good.
