what would casue an error like this...

Recommended Posts

"The instruction at "0x00401687" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read". ... My program compiles fine, but it crashes with this when it starts running. Does this mean I have an f*d pointer somewhere? Clicking debug points me to this code: if(FAILED(d3d->GetAdapterDisplayMode(D3DADAPTER_DEFAULT, &d3d_display))) return false; Which is part of my init for direct 3D. I know I''m in way over my head here, but its what I tend to do. Could anyone help explain the error, I know I''ll get it eventually...

I''ve got a lot of this problems even with most commercial software , when i found my power supply not providing anough power . It also happened when my ram-timings were too aggressive . So it could be a hardware problem .

you''re probably trying to read memory from a pointer that looks something like this:

myPointer = NULL; // NULL == 0x0000000
