We are building an application that plays wave files (DirectX). Everything works fine if we have the Visual Studio development environment open and run our program, however, if we close Visual Studio and run the application we can no longer hear the sound play. Does anybody know why it would do this and how we can fix it. Thanks, Andrew

Sounds like wrong working directories.

You may have already taken this into account, but if you have a default build system with:

then the CWD is project

if you try and run either of the the prog.exe it will not find files that are opened relatively.

You can fix this by copying the executables to the project directory or changing the project settings to build into a different directory with your data files (or file structure).
