Ok this may seem like a very nieve question but what exactly is a 3d Engine? It seems that everyone makes one and that everyone''s does something different so what I''m asking here is where does the 3d Engine stop and the game code begin? At the very basic level what is the function of the engine?

A basic engine does the following:
Erase Objects
Move Objects
Draw Obhects
the objects are anything from models, polygons, whatever your game requires. Usually the easiest of the three parts is erasing objects. I can honestly say I am a guru of this aspect of the engine. Now only two more to go.

wow, i clicked on this link expecting a flame-fest... maybe the flamers haven''t caught wind of it yet...

a 3D engine is just a set of functions that implements a 3D world using some form of 3D graphics API, which normally is either Direct3D or OpenGL...
