I''ve used the Windows Icon (.ICO) tutorial at www.wotsit.org to help understand the file format structure for these files, and to create a basic program to read icon files and display them (using the SetPixel API call). Is there a way to obtain a handle to the icon data stored in memory so that I can display it using the BitBlt API call?

If you have access to the pixels of the icon, why not simply create a bitmap and fill it? Or, use GDI+ which can create a Bitmap object using an HICON in the constructor.
