2d lighting

Hi, I want to do lighting in my 2D game, but i have no clue how any type of lighting is done. So can someone offer me a simple explanation? +AA_970+

I don''t understand? how can lighting be done in 2d games?
do you mean the fog of battle or whatever in warcraft and those games. for lighting other than that it is usually prerendered.
