noobie opengl or dx multi-tiling question..

In the good ole'' days of GDI, you blit everything to a backbuffer (eg tiles) then flip it to the hdc.. is it the same when you draw triangles and such to a surface? the stuff ''stays'' there until you do a glClear().. no matter how many times you flip() in your loop and update another layer above it at the same time?? Am I wrong with the concept? I fseek, therefore I fam.

Yes, that was something like I had in mind.. interesting website btw.

The more I think it useful for would be to leave stuff like tracks, trails, or bullet-shots in the tiles, but I guess that would be where the texture UV comes in at.

I''m probably trying to compare apples and oranges here.. thanx for ur time.
