the style to place a 3d model on a 2d map. from model to a skin.
to use a front and back face culling or cylinder style or maybe another way for making textures for 3d models in my model editor.

Anyone else?

I can backface and front face cull and draw those as 1/2 texture each?
then move over lapped tris by ''hand''?
this seems the simplest way for now.

I''m sorry to say that, but the best way is the manual method.
If you expect the cylindrical / spherical / any automatic methods to work, you should prepare yourself for problems : be it overlapping issues, non-orthogonal mappings, etc.
