Writing your own library + 2d/3d
Hey there peoples,
I was just wondering.. how mahy of you write your own graphics library, as opposed to using a freeware/commercially available library? I assume you'd learn more writing your own but is it worth just learning a prewritten one to get your game off the ground as quick as possible?
Also, and I know this is probably going to seem like a stupid question *grin*, is it better to change from directdraw over to direct3d (or even opengl) and just fix the view when making a 2d game? I understand it's easier to rotate objects etc.
Also, if it is better to learn a 3D API, is OpenGL or Direct3D, on the whole, easier? And is there a bitmap class?
Anyway, any opinions are greatly appreciated

If it wasn''t for C, we''d be using BASI, PASAL and OBOL
