2 simple Blender questions

I have two questions about the free 3D program, Blender. 1. How do I make a texture NOT repeat on every face? 2. Is it possible to convert objects like text, curves and stuff to triangle-meshes? Well, how do you use multiple textures on a mesh in other 3D programs?
