Here is my idea for a single player game. The main character is a young alien (about 16) from some foreign plannet. Hes perminantly tripping on acid. The game will start in his room where hes sleeping and falls into a dream (drug influenced) where he thinks hes kidnapped by other aliens. The game will be about him getting out of his captivity and waking up. All the music would be matrix, techno. Things in the game would be weird like for somereason his arms might just get big (but will be used in the level). Things will just transform and everything will be blazing colors. I already had an idea how my character would act so this is just my idea for the rest of the game. Let me know what you think.

Sounds like a pretty cool Idea .. there is a game that has the similar sleeping and thinking your trapped Idea.. its " "''s Dream (I can''t remember the name exactly)...

Only think I''m not sure about is the acid tripping thing, if your planning on marketing it you might run into problems with that and a younger crowd.. but on the other hand they might just think its cool..

I would maybe make it happening for a different reason... like just use the idea that its a dream and he is just making weird things happen and not use the drug theme..

Overall sounds like an interesting game where things can change on you anytime

Thanks, I''m not really plannin on marketing it, we''ll just see how stuff goes but maybe if i finish it it will just be like 10 dollars on some website. Never in a box on the shelf.

Some things im thinkin of...

Oozing colors on a quad over the whole screen.

Sometimes if the player bumps his arms on stuff they will get stuck and as he walks they will stretch and eventualy break away snapping back into him.

Scaling: It would probably easier to scale the player then the entire world, but scaling.

Endless halls, get to the end only to see it drop off the world, turn around and when you get back to where you came from its totaly differnt (inside becomes outside, or just totaly differnt settings).

Motion blur of player, like a stuttery sampleing i guess, not really a blur.

Enemies take on some of your characteristics, maybe your head, or your entire body.


Anyone else got any other ideas, or comments on these?

Speaking from personal experience, why dont you change the plot to: The Alien is at school, where his friend gives him some acid, after a while he starts tripping, gets a bus into town and begins an extremely long walk home (it takes so long because he cant recognise any of the streets because they all look the same), and he cant tell if the ground is solid or liquid, and everything looks like a fractal (especiallg trees), people (or aliens, in this case), look all crooked and ugly, and just to make things interesting, he keeps shifting into strange sub-realities, for instance: if he finds and eats a banana, suddenly everything around him starts to turn yellow, and people (sorry aliens)begin to look like monkeys, and all the buildings start to get bigger but theyre not really, its just that he is getting smaller, then he is able to fit into small objects like mail-boxes, and when he gets into a mailbox, more weird things start to appear, like giant rivers with paper boats...and dont have a techno soundtrack. have a varied soundtrack that varies with the mood of the game. It sounds like a fine idea for a game though. By the way, theres a site you should check out: www.erowid.org where people share their acid-trip experiences with the public. Ive read some pretty weird things on that site, its sure to give you some ideas.

It''s an excellent idea. But if this is your first game. Don''t do this one. It''s too hard for a first game. I have a very large folder of many many game ideas on my ''puter, with many sketches (done with a tablet), for games that I know I ought not to do yet.
