How do I import the effects into my programs? I note rendermonkey exports them as XML files - does the D3DXCreateEffect jobby accept an XML file? It looks totally different to the D3D9 documentation - or did they change the effects parse to work on XML files in D3D9 but leave the D3D8 documentation in? I''m confused.

No, As far as I know.

You have to write your own (or use an existing) XML parser and/or XML-to-FX converter. ATI chose XML because it''s flexible, and can be converted to any other specific format.
