Do video cards hold vertex arrays that are used frequently? Or does it only hold one at a time as you pass it? just curious ...

I believe they just keep the current one. It''s a little too much to store on the GFX card if it would keep a cache also there of the previous ones...

It depends. Using straight vertex arrays on OpenGL, the video card doesn''t keep it in Video Ram at all. With extensions (VBO, VAR) you can store the data on the video card.

DirectX has flags which you select which tell it where to hold the data. It holds however many you create on the card, as long as there is memory on the card to do so.
