Okay, when I try to compile any OpenGL program at all, it says this: No, it doesn''t even compile, it has 3 errors, here they are: --------------------Configuration: PONG1 - Win32 Debug-------------------- Compiling... PONG.CPP c:\program files\microsoft visual studio\vc98\include\gl\gl.h(1152) : error C2144: syntax error : missing '';'' before type ''void'' c:\program files\microsoft visual studio\vc98\include\gl\gl.h(1152) : error C2501: ''WINGDIAPI'' : missing storage-class or type specifiers c:\program files\microsoft visual studio\vc98\include\gl\gl.h(1152) : fatal error C1004: unexpected end of file found Error executing cl.exe. PONG.OBJ - 3 error(s), 0 warning(s) Can anyone please help me, on how to fix this?

The Win32 implementation of OpenGL has a quirk where it includes the platform specific (WGL) functions inside its main OpenGL header (GL/gl.h). However, types that are referenced by the platform specific functions do so under the assumption that you'll be including the header(s) that define those types before hand (windows.h and friends).

In short: to use OpenGL in Windows, you must include windows.h before any OpenGL headers.

Edit: mispelled quirk as quark, heh.

Dudes, I gotta say thanks to all for helpin'', but stay on your toes(if u don''t mind) cause I''m gonna ask a lotta questions. Okay, thanks for helping me get openGL started agian and I''m starting to learn about OpenGL and its 3d and 2d things, I say, kinda easyish, one of the best. Oh, and I don''t do the "I like OpenGL, DirectX is crap" or "I do Direct X, OpenGL sucks", just to say, so don''t try too steer me to one of those, I''m gonna learn how to use both. No insult, but it''s kinda stupid too choose one, they both have their strong points, and weak points, anyways, just wanted to say, THANKS! (and Quantum, I''ll try to IM you).

i don''t think anybody would make such comparisons between ogl and dx....ogl is just for rendering, dx covers audio and input as well
