heightmap - planar to cylinder

My 3D homemade 3D scanner creates a planar heightmap of the outer surface of an object. It does this by the use of a line detector which rotates around an object once. The planar heightmap is therefore an unwrapped cylinder of the true 3D model. I would like to convert this heightmap back into its true ''shape''. Does the code for this geometrical conversion exist? Essentially I am wrapping a heightmap around a cylinder. Actually I am wrapping a heightmap around a central axis of a cylinder. All help is appreciated c++ code for this would be good! thanks John
