3DS Local Coordinates

Dows anyone here know how to use the local coordinates chunk in a 3DS-file? I know that there are 4 vectors, X-axis, Y-axis, Z-axis and origin, right? But how can I use them to convert all vertices in an object to world coordinates? It just doesn''t make any sense at all to me! /CMN
