finding dimensions of stenciled area

After writing to the stencil buffer, I would like to be able to find the dimensions of the area that was stenciled, such as the minimum and maximum x and y coordinates. Does anyone know a fast way to do this? The way I draw over the stenciled area currently is to render a texture the size of the entire screen in order to do the capping. This is very SLOW. I am using OpenGL with a GEForce4, if that matters at all. Thanks in advance!
