Spheremapping Help - Cg Version

I have the Cg Tutorial and it has an excellent tutorial for cube mapping. But for what I need it to do, I do not need cube mapping thus I can improve the performance using spheremapping instead giving an optimal solution for the implementation. If anyone out there knows of a good tutorial explaining how spheremapping works, or a implementation of spheremapping in a high level shader language to learn from, please reply! .:[ Carandiru ]:.
