I've tried Dev C++.

Yes, and what's wrong with it?

Dev C++ is an IDE (integrated development environment), for/based on a compiler called MinGW (a Windows port of GCC). You could just try MinGW by itself, yet I can't see what would be wrong with Dev C++ for a beginner.
