Hi All, Im thinking of writting a small application that will display the number of bytes sent/recived from my internet connection, should i be looking at winsock?? ive never done any programming to do with the internet so this is all new to me. if not winsock then what would be the best way of gaining access to the data sent information? any help is greatly appreciated. cheers

To get statistics about a network connection you''ll probably want to look into perfmon counters. Start by checking out the Performance Data Helper API.

Thanks for the reply JonStelly
im reading up on it now, just another quick question in order to use perfmon counters i will need to include #include <pdh.h>

Yes, you''ll need to include pdh.h and link with pdh.lib.

There are other ways to get at the perfmon data, it''s kept as binary structures in a special registry key, but the PDH API is probably the simplest way to deal with it.
