Just trying to figure out if it''s better to start work on a new game with DirectX 8 or 9? I realize that most people probably have 9 by now, but there just doesn''t seem to be any advantage that I can see, especially given that my vid card doesn''t even support any DX9 features. (GF4 Ti4200). Right now I''m pretty set on 8, unless someone can offer some good reasons to use 9. I also noticed that some of the function calls have changed, in the number and order of the parameters. Is this a common occurrence between versions of DX? Thanks. -Marcus

I''m still working with DirectX 8, as I have a bit of a library of code I''ve developed over the last couple of years that I don''t feel like migrating over to DX 9 yet - nor do I have a compelling reason to do so. I''ll probably upgrade the code for DX10.

dx9.

I never really got into dx8, but with these new shaders and stuff (which i''m now in love with) dx9 is the way to go for me.

you''ll be waiting a while for dx10... it''s probably going to ship with longhorn in 2005...

Thanks for the replies guys....I''ve decided to give DX9 a go. I''ll just make a small demo, and if not enough people can run it, I''ll head back to 8.
