DX9 C# 2D hw accelerated alpha blended sprite library?
I''m looking for open source libraries that implement 2D alpha blended HW accelerated sprites in DX9. I would prefer Managed code in C#, but pickings have been so slim that I''d look at anything that actually works. I''ve been all over SourceForge. The best I''ve found is
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ovorp/ but it''s using the Managed interface to DirectDraw I believe. Which isn''t alpha blended, is only DX7, and will probably go away eventually.
The goal is a 2D game with tens of thousands of sprites. I know all about SDL, Kyra, etc. they are not HW accelerated. Only good for dozens or maybe hundreds of sprites. Also part of the point is to do DX9 and C#.
Finally, if anyone can point me at game development forums where there''s a concentration of .NET and C# knowledge, I''d be much obliged. I''m still fairly new to the .NET landscape and although I''ve got a number of "the usual suspects" covered, I''m not sure I''m looking everywhere I could be.

Taking risk where others won''t.
Have you tried using D3DXSprites directly? sounds like you don''t need much more than that.
Oh, and look at www.gotdotnet.com.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

Haven''t looked at D3DXSprites. Someone said something Bad to me about that, I forget what. How to do it myself is the next homework problem. :-) My head has been swimming with all of the sites I''ve been on trying to find stuff. Looked at gotdotnet once, will look again, but they are a "samples and tutorials" outfit. Realize, part of the goal here is to use a complete 2D engine that someone else has already done. I''m only going to write it if it doesn''t exist.
I am currently working, and have been for the past 2 years, on a very capable 2D engine.
With relatively basic sprites, I have been able to display 4000 sprites at good speeds with sorting, movement, input, and some other nice things my engine does.
If you are interested, you can check out my sig. My website has an older version of the engine, and I have a more recent version.
I'd be glad to hear from you on EMail as well, or on AOL Instant Messenger. My screen names are ShavenMcJagger and ArmySarj. My email is VChelaru@hotmail.com. I would be glad to give you tips on using it, upgrading the help file for the more recent version, and giving you updates as they come out, if you are interested.
