OP: you should be extremely comfortable with your language of choice. If you can consistently write stuff that works and read and understand other code, you know what the vast majority of your language''s keywords and standard libraries do, then you should move on. There''s no point in learning to do Windows programming (either using the API or using MFC) or learning a graphics API unless you''re already competent in the langauge you''re going to be using

By the way, Windows programming and graphics APIs are two seperate areas. While you will need to learn the absolute basics of putting together Windows apps to get any real benefit out of graphics APIs (epecially Direct3D ) you probably won''t need much more than that, and most graphics API tutorials seem to cover it.
