~hello I need to edit windows 2000 registers under DOS (or unix/linux)and I can''t find any utility, so where can I get some usuable source/tutorial/fileformatspec for coding my own util? thanks exa_einstein

What do you mean by `windows 2000 registers''? Do you mean that you are performing registry exports and then you are going to edit those, or do you mean something else? If it is export files you are talking about, then you need to be aware that they are exported in Unicode format, so whatever program you use needs to be Unicode aware. Anything under DOS is unlikely to be Unicode aware. However, its rare these days to be even running DOS. Are you sure you actually mean DOS? How do you intend to get the registries from Windows 2000 to DOS or *nix? Why do you even need to edit them on a non-native system?

The Windows 2000 Resource Kit provides a DOS/Command Line registry manipulation program, aptly titled "REG.EXE"

Regedit will run under DOS, however rather then giving you a GUI as it does in windows it can only be used to import/export some or all of the registry to a text file. Read the help file for more information.
