Getting started with DX is not an easy task. It''s one cumbersome API . You''ll have hard times figuring out stuff. But well, times have changed, and DX as evolved wonderfully.

If you want to delve into understanding 3D concepts, you''ll find it easier to test stuff with OGL (OpenGL), which is relatively a very simple API. When you get the 3D stuff, you could migrate to DX. You''ll find stuff making sense quite easily.

Gamedev.net itself hosts a good collection of DirectX tutorials. You could start with

and the tutorials that come with the SDK are a good place to start. If you get into trouble, this forum is there to help you out.

We are very friendly you see.
