What is the best Java Book for total Beginers?

I can progam pretty good in visual basic. I have heard how great java is for doing internet games. As a matter of fact my favorite game is written in java. I was wondering if someone out there would tell me some good, total newbie books to learn java. I want to do games so also what is a good java game programming book. Thanks a million!

To learn the language, there is the online documentation and tutorial provided by Sun here

The Java Tutorial

For a more complete book, I own this

Java 2 The Complete Reference

Schildt also has a beginners book which is less expensive

Java 2 A Beginner's Guide

You also want a book on Java games. There are a couple older ones, but this one by Petchel and Lamothe seems more up to date. Has some bad reviews though

For a brand new book, try this

i really love "learning java" from o'reiley. good for beginners and for later reference.
