Point sprites unsupported ?

I was browsing a few other threads on the subject of point sprites, as I found them to be quite interesting, and I noticed a few times it was mentioned that GL_POINT_SPRITES_ARB (GL_ARB_POINT_SPRITES?) are unsupported in OpenGL under ati drivers, yet are supported in DX. Is this true? it''s quite a shame if its true, as it can make a good difference in frame rates.

Catalyst 3.7 and older driver don''t support the extension, but ATI''s just released a new driver set. I''m not sure if it''s supported in them (I''m at school, still), though. . .
