Hi everyone , This is a general question for all graphics game programmers. while working graphics , we often need to get sample data to check our work. e.g these days i am working on implementing bsp along with pvs etc and i need to see how well my code is working. For these kinda uses, i need a simple map editor in which i can build simple to moderately comlex maps to get my job done . What shud i use ?? I only need vertex, face info for the time being. which editors do u use for these kinda purposes ?? Thanx On course to my first FPS engine , zoooooom

Well, you could always try using q3radiant or Hammer Editor, and adapting the output they create to your level format. The Quake III BSP format is particularly well-documented.

Alternatively, you could write your own editor. This is what I''ve chosen to do, but it''s taken me some time to create core code which I can use to create brushes, entities and other stuff, along with the tools to modify them (it''s almost finished!). But it''s not a good idea to write your own editor without a firm grounding in 3D math...

Well actually i am looking for some editor where i can get a easily readable format as output (only a list triangles will suffice ) and using which i can draw maps easily and quickly !!
q3radiant and stuff is an overkill !!
Any suggestions??
Thanx

If you don’t want to use GtkRadiant ( http://qeradiant.com/ ), I suggest using an old and simple editor called Qoole (source included).
More information at:
