Off hand name all the collision types you can think of? More over any i''m missing? Examples { slide slash - these three seem to me to be the same or at least related rub stab push - these three seem to me to be the same or at least related dab screw/spin roll } Now assuming you keep track of temporal coherence (and models/collision structures contain infomation on whether edges and points are sharp or not) of collisions has there already been any research into efficient methods to classify collisions?

yeah, all collisions should justy return a point of collision, time/depth of collision, and a normal. Apart from that, there is no real need. You may want to tell if a collision is a contact or a proper collision, as contacts can be troublesome.
