seamless textures

Recommended Posts

I made a grass texture that actually looks decent and now I'm trying to make it seamless. In Photoshop I tried using the offset filter and the clone stamp tool. All I get instead of a sharp edge is a blurred edge, and it's still noticeable . Is there more to it than that? It's basically what everything I found on google said to do. Sorry if I sound like a complete newbie, programming and making art don't mix very well. [edited by - Raloth on October 11, 2003 12:14:49 PM]

The way I do it is to duplicate the grass on another layer, apply offset to the top layer, then use the erase tool to erase the seam on the top layer, revealing the non-offset grass beneath. With creative use of the airbrush option of the erase tool, you can blend out any noticeable irregularities caused by the erasing.

Also, don''t erase in a line following the seam; instead, try to "irregularize" the erase, blending the edges, zig-zagging, whatever, to make the erase pattern less noticeable.

Check out Golem: Lands of Shadow, an isometrically rendered hack-and-slash inspired equally by Nethack and Diablo.
