DirectX 9 - precision

Hi, Im new to using DirectX9, and apparently one of the new features is a ''half'' (16bit) float. I cant seem to find any examples of how to create a vertex buffer which uses these ''half'' floats instead of 32bit ones. Does anyone have any examples or know where to look? Thanks.
