how to get a vertex projection of a plane

From memory, the distance of the vertex from the plane is

dist = x*a + y*b + c*z + d

To find the point on the plane, perpendicularly below the vertex, subtract the plane normal multiplied by the distance :

x2 = x - a*dist
y2 = y - b*dist
z2 = z - c*dist
