In every job there is at least one language that everybody wants you to know or at least it should be good for you to know it.Which is that language in general.Which is that programming language that is good to know in any programming job?Thanks.

What kind of job? IT/data processing? Java. Maybe C# in a year or two. Games/graphics? C++ I would suppose. Embedded systems? C? Sys-admin? Perl/awk/sed/C/shell scripting.

I work in IT at a large chemical database company. In the past year I've used C++, Java, Perl, and Kornshell.
