Hi, this is my first post in http://www.gamedev.net forum Here r some free tools for Windows ... (most r available in more platforms) Language - IDE - GameLib ---------------------------------------------------------- MinGW C++ - Dev-C++ - SDL Python - PythonWin - PyGame(SDL wrapper) Editor ------------- SciTE (good highlighting) Crimson Editor (spell check) 2D Art ------- GIMP Audio Editor ------------ Audacity some extras ... (only, i know very few things abt these tools) 3D Art (all the names i know) ------------------------ GMax, Strata 3Dbase, 3D Canvas, Blender, POV-Ray Map Editor ---------- Mappy Tile Studio GUI Framework ------------- WxWindows ( used by audacity) GTK+ (used by GIMP) Click ''n'' Play ------------ GameMaker please add ur pros & cons abt the above tools OR abt ur favor tools so, it will make choosing easy ... -[rgk_quaker]-

Buttonz and Tilez - good for making game tiles
Pixia - another graphic editing program

Open office.org - good substitute for MSOffice, good for design documents and such.

Java compiler and/or Netbeans IDE - If you want to use Java instead of Python or C++
Masm - Another language.
RADasm - Probably the best IDE I''ve ever seen, only drawback is it''s for ASM only..

Game Creation on the Cheap - article hosted here with a lot of good resources

No one else has any tools?
I have one small addition some may find useful, if they wish to do 3D work.

Caligari Truespace 3.0 has been released as freeware. You'll need to register (also free) to get the key.


And for people looking for simple general purpose library,
Allegro.
