Alpha testing

Dear All, I have a texture on top of a quad. I want to alpha test away all portions of the texture that are white. How should I go about doing this? I used to do this in opengl using register combiners, but I''m not sure how one would do it in DX. Jesse

when loading your texture using dx routines you can specify a mask color it makes that alpha. From there turn on alpha test and a compare state.
