What is the triangles threshold from which using billboards will be worthwhile?

Hi, Billboard is only 2 triangles, but it has alpha channel. I have HUGE amount of light models (between 30 to 200 triangles). In order to accelerate the frame rate, I replace some of them with billboards (textures). The frame rate is very very critical in my walkthrough because I render huge number of small models. Is there any EXACT triangle threshold measure for determining what is faster to render, the model or the billboard?
