How do i use DirectX8 to load RAW(8-bit Luminance) graphic file???

Do anyones know how to load this kind of file? i use D3DXCreateTextureFromFileEx(_device,"Face.raw",256,256,0,0, D3DFMT_L8,D3DPOOL_MANAGED,D3DX_DEFAULT,D3DX_DEFAULT,0, NULL,NULL,&g_pTexture); I use the "D3DFMT_L8" D3DFORMAT but it show me a white(notthing) texture. I want to show it with 2D texture. Please told me thank you very much.
